+ Disaster Management
One of the main objectives of Red Cross is to protect life and provide immediate relief to the extent possible to the victims of natural calamities such as floods, cyclones, epidemics, famine, drought, earthquakes, fire accidents etc.,. For immediate disaster preparedness and response, efforts are being made to train the people from local community, as they will be in a better position to save lives and provide immediate relief as early as possible. These activities are carried out in the disaster prone areas with the help and assistance of I.R.C.S. National Headquarters, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and other National Partner Societies viz., American Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross, Hong Kong Red Cross and Spanish Red Cross.

Disaster Management is a collective term encompassing all aspects of planning and responding to disasters including both pre and post disaster activities.

Disaster Management Department has established State Disaster Response Team (SDRT) in Headquarters of State Branch. SDRT consists of Red Cross members who are trained and specialized in different sectors of emergency response and deployed under a team leader for the coordination and operation management on the site.

+ IRCS Cancer Hospital
Red Cross is running Cancer Detection Center in Nellore which was started in 2001 and has been developed into a Caner Hospital. Surgeries (Major/Minor), Radiations, Chemo Therapy, HDR & Brachy Therapy, X-Ray, ECG, Ultra Sound Scan, Mammogram, Lab Tests, Pathology Tests are conducted to the patients.

+ Blood Banks
The Indian Red Cross Society, A.P. State Branch is playing a key role in voluntary blood donation movement. It is the largest procurer of blood in the State with twenty nine (29) blood banks and fifty one (51) Blood storage centers working under its control. The Red Cross has developed 8 centers from among the Blood Banks for the purpose of Blood Components Separation for specific requirements. During the year 2015-16, 1389Blood donation camps were conducted and 1,17,445 units of Blood have been collected.

+ Medicine Banks
The concept of the Medicine banks has been evolved with the object of providing medicines free of cost to poor & needy people to the extent possible, supplementing the services by the Government in providing free medicines. In furtherance to this objective, four (4) Medicine Banks have been opened so far at the following places in the state and they are functioning satisfactorily.
  • Red Cross Medicine Bank, Bapatla
  • Red Cross Medicine Bank, Srikakulam
  • Red Cross Medicine Bank, Vzianagaram
  • Red Cross Medicine Bank, Vijayawada
The IRCS intends to set up as many Medicine banks as possible in each district. For successful functioning of the Medicine Banks, the IRCS is making efforts to collect medicines and/or cash by appealing to Pharmaceutical companies, Chemists and Druggists Associations, Doctors and Philanthropists.

+ Medical Camps
A.P.Red Cross regularly conducts Medical Camps in all Districts with the help of Senior Doctors like Children specialists, Dentists, Gynaecologists and General Physicians who volunteer to give free service. Medicines are also distributed free of charge.

Medical, Health, Eye camps are conducted during the year are as follows:-

  • Free medical and Health checkup camps:-15951 Nos.
  • Eye checkup camps, Dental Checkup camps:- 239 Nos.
  • Pulse polio immunization:- 146 Nos.
  • Psysio Therapy Ayurvedic Clinic (Polio/Bone):- 32 Nos.
  • 6,804 Vials of Anti Rabies Vaccine was supplied to 16,850 dog bite victims
  • Tetvac Tox Vaccine: 1,293 ml dose used to 2,586 patients
  • Hepatitis-B Vaccine: 177 ml used to 177 patients

+ Orphanages / Rehabilitation Homes

A.P. Red Cross is running Red Cross Rehabilitation Home for Boys, Guntur District; and Red Cross Balala Sadanam, Srikakulam District. The inmates are provided free boarding and lodging, clothes and education up to 10th class.

+ Junior Red Cross/Youth Red Cross
During the year, 273 Nos. of Schools have registered and 48,090 Nos. of students have enrolled under Junior Red Cross. 70 Nos. of Colleges have registered and 37,527 Nos. of students enrolled under Youth Red Cross. JRC/YRC Students have participated in Republic Day, Independence Day parade, Pulse Polio programme, Children’s Day celebrations, distribution of nutritious food for CLHIV+, poster painting, rallies conducted on world AIDS Day, Tree plantation, awareness programmes on health, hygiene, HIV, First Aid Training, Swine Flu, voluntary blood donation motivation, Traffic Rules, Swaatch Bharath, etc.

+ Schools
The Indian Red Cross Society is runningRed Cross orthopedically residential boys high school for Orthopedically Handicapped, Deaf & Dumb with free Boarding, Lodging, Dresses and supply of textbooks and stationery from 1st to 10th classes at Kakinada, East Godavari District.

+ Sewing Centres
Under Red Cross Women Empowerment Program girls are trained in sewing, embroidery, apparel design, knitting, cutting and crochet. Red Cross Sewing/Tailoring Centres are running in the following Districts:-
  • Kakinada, East Godavari District
  • Tuni, East Godavari District
  • Nandyal, Kurnool District
  • Kadapa, YSR Kadapa District
  • Machilipatnam, Krishna District.
  • Pallipadu, SPSR Nellore District
  • Srikakulam, Srikakulam District
+ Urban Health Centers
Urban Health Centres are providing Maternity Services, Prenatal & Antenatal care, normal deliveries, and child welfare services including immunization programmes. Motivation services for family welfare including sterilization / vasectomy operations are carried out. All the centres are involved in Pulse-Polio Programmes and are covering total target areas.

+ Yoga Centres:
Red Cross Yoga Centres are established in East Godavari, Vizianagaram, and SPSR Nellore (Kavali) Districts.

+ Home For Senior Citizens
Running a Red Cross Home for Senior Citizens at Santhosh Nagar of Vakalapudi village of Kakinada Rural Mandal with a plinth area of 352-43 sq.mts. with 4 double rooms, two dormitories, one dining hall, one kitchen, office room with spacious varandah and with good ventilation and also having good open place with lawn surrounded by compound wall. It is built in pleasant village atmosphere for 24 senior citizens who are aged 60 Years can be accommodated in this home. At Present 16 inmates are residing in the Home.

+ First Aid Training Programme
The Red Cross A.P. State Branch provides various courses for different types of first aid training from employees working in Corporate Sector both Private and Public sector, Government organizations, factories and Industries community level volunteers and to Students in educational institutions, etc. and awareness programmes for Junior Red Cross and Youth Red Cross are conducted in educational institutions. During the year, 745 Nos. participants have trained in Senior First Aid Training.

+ Tracing Activities

A.P. Red Cross facilitates tracing activities with trained Family News Service (FNS) Focal personnel for restoring contact between people who are separated during natural or man-made calamities at District Level as well as at State Level with the support of IRCS, National Headquarters and International Committee of Red Cross.

+ Jeevandhara Pharmacy OutLets

Indian Red Cross Society, A.P. State Branch is organizing various Voluntary Service Activities to mitigate human suffering with the initiative of Government of Andhra Pradesh by setting up of generic drug store under Jeevandhara scheme at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Campus, Tirupati. Workshop conducted to the Doctors on Generic Drugs for prescription to the patients, at SVIMS Conference Hall with the support of Dr.Venkata Reddy, Member of Pharmacy Council of India on Generic Vs Brand Name Drugs. Justice Dr.A.Lakshmana Rao, Hon.Chairman, IRCS, A.P.State Branch, Dr.B.Vengamamba, the then Director, SVIMS, Tirupati;Doctors and Head of the Departments, Red Cross Members have participated. IRCS, A.P.State Branch is taking steps for establishment of Jana Aushadi stores in all the headquarters of the Districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Jeevandhara Pharmacy (Generic Medical Shop) was inaugurated on 9th Nov 2014 at SVIMS campus, Tirupathi and is catering to the needs of the below poverty line patients who are attending as out patients in Tiruapthi and its neighboring areas.
